The event will focus on Software and Information Technology services as enabling technology to respond to high impact regional needs within the framework of the Bogotá - Cundinamarca Intelligent Specialisation Strategy.

The Information Technology and Software sector has been a priority for Colombia for years, so it has institutional support and a specialised companies network willing to collaborate to generate new opportunities in the sector.

Relevant data include:

  • According to IDC Research Inc., a recognised global market intelligence leader for the IT sector, between 2003 and 2015, the IT & IT market in Colombia has grown 5 times its size.
  • Hardware continues dominating the market with 54.7% of total market share, software with 33.1% and services with 12.1% (IDC, 2016).
  • Colombia is the third largest IT service provider in the region behind Brazil and Mexico, reaching sales of US $ 2.4 billion.
  • 78% of medium and large IT companies in Colombia are located in Bogotá (Invest in Bogota, 2016).
  • Colombia has an infrastructure capable of supporting world-class operations, with 10 submarine cables that allow the use of 4G technology (MinTIC, 2015).

The Intelligent Specialisation Strategy of Bogotá - Region, was formally born as an initiative in 2015 and is based on the characterisation of opportunities at three levels:

  • Prioritisation of areas of specialisation,
  • Identification of specialisation niches, and
  • Definition of strategic projects.
